The Queen Charlotte Track is a 70km long walking track between Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound in the Marlborough Sounds. It extends from Ship Cove in the north to Anakiwa in the south.
Starting with a boat ride to Ship Cove – the landing point for Captain Cook in 1770 – the walk starts, by heading south over a ridge towards Endeavour inlet. Wandering through regenerated forests, the walk follows the shoreline. After the hamlet of Endeavour the track climbs away from the beach, passing through a largely unmodified forest, where the high canopy is complemented by a diverse understorey of shrubs and small trees. Pushing through onto the ridge you are rewarded with magnificent panoramas of the Sounds. Following the ridge, you head south past many side walks and lookout points, descending towards the end into Anakiwa.
This track sees 30,000 visitors per year and is easily accessible from Picton.
