We grew up listening to the weather forecast over ther radio, describing the various regions and their weather for that day. There was als the shipping forecast with some more unique names that didn't register with local towns or cities.
In this unique map we have creatively plotted the shipping areas around New Zealand according to their maritime names. There were no defined boundaries so we took the inshore zones as covering 200Km of the New Zealand Coast. The larger areas cover New Zealand territorial waters.
We still hear the radio talk about "Portland to Castlepoint" or "Milford, Grey, Stephens" or "Brett to Cape Colville". When they come up next time, you can now imagine the areas they are in.
