Tongoriro Alpine Crossing

This tramping track is regarded as the best one-day hike in New Zealand. You can freedom walk the crossing or enjoy the company of an experienced guide. Most walkers start at Mangatepopo which then takes them over alpine meadows up and over the moon like landscape of Mt Tongariro. The finish is through the pristine rain forest towards the Ketetahi Road end of the track. The crossing takes about seven hours of steady walking to complete in good weather. It may take longer in winter or if walked from the Ketetahi end.

Central Otago Rail Trail

This track is a 150-kilometre walking, cycling, and horse riding track in the South Island. Taking its name from the railway line, built between 1891 and 1907, many consider it to be one of New Zealand’s ‘Great Rides’. The rail-trail travels through the rugged Otago country. Consequently, cyclists traverse an ever-changing dry and rocky landscape, high-country sheep stations, spectacular river gorges, tunnels, and viaducts. Hence, the trail is not just about the cycling but rather exploring the many small towns and old gold diggings.

The Queen Charlotte Track

This track is a 70km long walk between Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound in the Marlborough Sounds. It extends from Ship Cove in the north to Anakiwa in the south.

Starting with a boat ride to Ship Cove – the landing point for Captain Cook in 1770 – the walk starts, by heading south over a ridge towards Endeavour inlet. Wandering through regenerated forests, the walk follows the shoreline. After the hamlet of Endeavour the track climbs away from the beach, passing through a largely unmodified forest, where the high canopy is complemented by a diverse understorey of shrubs and small trees. Pushing through onto the ridge you are rewarded with magnificent panoramas of the Sounds. Following the ridge, you head south past many side walks and lookout points, descending towards the end into Anakiwa.

These maps are a wonderful memento for those who have walked the track or perhaps intend to in the future. Highlighting many of the sights you see on your journey, it can be a talking point in your home.

Enjoy these great looking and wonderfully informative maps.
